Every spring, the city of Holland hosts a tulip festival. Until this year, we had never been.
Not even when Mike and I lived in Holland the first year we were married.
So this year, I asked Mike if we could go up and check it out. It also happened to be Mother’s Day weekend.
The Tulip Festival is CRAZY packed on the Saturday before Mother’s Day, just FYI.
Especially when you get there just as the parade is starting.
I thought at times we might get lost in the crowd.
But the tulips didn’t disappoint.
Brilliant pops of color everywhere.
My personal two favorite tulips:
What has two lips but can’t kiss you? Bet you can’t guess the answer to that riddle.
After viewing the field of tulips, we crossed a bridge that overlooks a marsh.
Nice color contrast.
Love being a mommy to these girls!
Three of my fave peeps:
After failing to spot Shrek and Donkey in the swamp, we made our way down the street to the carnival grounds where the girls became flying agents for a while.
They also became railroad walkers.
Mike and I are apparent advocates of living life dangerously.
All that dangerous walking made the girls’ feet grow bigger.
But thankfully not as big as their daddy’s feet:
This is what Buzz Lightyear would look like wearing Dutch shoes.
We tried on various wooden shoes to help our ailing feet:
But we just kept coming back to the same pair of shoes.
Annie started out okay, but then the shoes became a bit too much for her…
So it was Daddy A.K.A. Buzz Lightyear to the rescue:
After we’d had our fill of shoes, we went inside a fudge shop and almost came out with a kitten.
Not really. Not even after Katie begged me to “unattend” her.
It was a great day filled with lots of shoes, tulips, color, fun and love…
