Mike’s brother Steve came into town from Montana for a few days this past weekend.
It was great to have him here! (We missed his lovely wife Karen, who wasn’t able to get out of work or stow away in Steve’s suitcase.)
We’d planned to go up to the lake on Sunday but with tornadoes in the forecast, we figured it was probably wise to stay home. Fortunately, we didn’t have to reenact any scenes from Oz.
So we hit the lake a couple of days later when it was nice and sunny.
Hello, Lake Michigan!
We walked up the wooden stairway to get a great view of the lake.
And saw Chicago.
And a cute puppy.
And a cute owl too.

The Kalling Brothers:
(And again after I told Steve to smile) 🙂
They could be twins, really. Aside from the facial hair, height, and build. Okay, so maybe not. Twins or not, they share a special bond. And lots of stories too. Ahem.
We descended the stairway to head for the lake waters.
Hubby had the camera in hand, so I wanted to show how normal his wife can be.
See? Perfectly normal.
Check out the hole in our heads (from global warming perhaps?):
Ah, Lake Michigan–no salt, no sharks, no worries!
But there are waves.
And the waves got the girls good–both girls’ shoes were completely submerged in water as they got up a tad bit too close. (Poor Gramma almost had tears from laughing so hard at the girls’ shocked reaction.)
We walked along the shore, throwing rocks into the waves and watching sea gulls in flight (literally–because Mike ran towards them and scared them away.)
Katie found treasure (not a sand dollar but a sandy quarter):

Fighting over the hat = a sure sign that it’s time to go grab some grub… at The Stray Dog Cafe. How fitting. And delicious!
A great afternoon at the lake…
Thank you, Uncle Stevie, for coming out to visit!
